Completely unacceptable service.
I have contacted this business twice—once by email and once directly through the official Toro service website—and received no response at all. They are listed by Toro as an authorized service provider, yet they completely ignore service requests. I live in Markdale and have a Toro snowblower that urgently needs repair, but based on this experience, I have zero trust in Toro’s so-called “authorized” network.

If this is how they treat customers seeking help, I strongly recommend avoiding both this location and relying on Toro’s dealer list. Save yourself the frustration—find a service provider who actually values your business.

Excellent hardware store. Very helpful and polite and friendly and pleasant staff. Very patient and helpful in finding the many things on my list. A great place to shop. Highly recommended. It's always a pleasure shopping for my needs at Rices Home Hardware. Always a staff member to help and guide you in the well stocked store.

These guys are great. Both in-store and with rentals, they and always are willing to go the extra mile even for something as small as a key cut. They also actually pickup the phone, unheared of these days! A knight and day difference from the other hardware store in-town. Please keep it up!

Stock is always so empty selection is very small even for a small town and all is overpriced garbage quality items

We took our wheelbarrow and tires to get the inner tubes changed. After a couple of weeks, we called the store and they told us wheels ready. Not!
One wheel had tube replaced but the other 2 were an unusual size, no inner tube located, Rice’s wanted to sell us 2 new wheels. The complaint is about the degree of disorganization in that department as the workers don’t know the status of the orders, and there was no digital record keeping. The younger staff are poorly trained and no one seems to know what is going on. They tend to take a long time to complete jobs. Avoid their repair service if u can.
The retail service is nice enough and adequate for a small town.

I sent this email to Rice's Home Hardware on Nov 23, 2023 but heard no response so am posting here. Due to poorly trained staff I had the blades ruined on my skates.

On Tuesday, Nov 14 I got my skates sharpened. At the time it all seemed fine and I didn't see the blades as the skate guards were put back on after.

The following Sunday (Nov 19) I had a game and was confused to find that when I first stood on the ice I found it hard to keep my feet underneath and was sliding everywhere. I thought something must be stuck to the bottom of my blades so went off to check them. I went to clear the snow away and got a splinter from the blade which I can't say has ever happened before. Once I was able to clear the snow away I saw marks on the blade but nothing on the bottom. I had a coach look at them and try a stone on them but he said they were too far gone for it to help. We had driven 2 hrs for the game so I ended up having to play the whole game slipping around the entire time as there was no one there to fix them.

When I got home I looked them over and to my shock saw the extent of the damage from the bad skate sharpening. Instead of a flat/u-surface that skates normally have, these go up to a peek in the middle. They also had dark lines, almost like burn marks, down the blades and had the marks on the side of the blades as mentioned above as well and chipping at the back of the blade. I've truly never seen skate blades in that bad of condition and even worse, right after having been sharpened. I have attached pictures to show this.

From there I got them sharpened again but they were only a wee bit better as the damage is substantial, so I ended up wearing my old skates. After my teammates saw how bad they were they made sure a more experienced person saw to them and this person had to go over them 4 times in order to fix the damage, thus shortening the lifespan of the blades.

I am no longer in the area as I was just visiting family and returned to Scotland on Nov 15; if I was I would have brought them back right away and spoken about it in person.

I don't know if there is a solution but if nothing else please make sure staff are fully trained on such machines as I'm just lucky I've had other skates to fall back on and others may not have that. The fact I got a metal splinter from it too is just insane and a huge safety concern.

I don't use awesome as loosely as most to describe anything. That said, Rice's is a totally awesome local resource. We placed an order in May (for an item that was out of stock) and got a phone call today (Sept 18) to let us know that it had arrived. Can CTC match that small town retailer attitude? Not happenin'! (I also like having a price tag on things.)

I have always received excellent service from the staff at this store. If they don't have what you want they will order it in for you. Great place to shop.
