I shop at Independent in St. Albert 3-5 days a week. My family shops there another 2-3 times a week. I would consider myself a regular.

The customer service is average at best. Don’t get me wrong there are some wonderful employees that are kind and helpful but there are times I feel like I’m being dismissed and not helped.

I feel this store has missed a major opportunity. It’s an independent grocery store, it’s family owned. I’ve moved from a community that has several independent, family owned grocery stores. The magic of these independent stores is not just great customer service, but the fact they get to know their regulars, they address guests by names, they go above and beyond. This store feels like a small superstore. It’s cold and unfeeling. They eliminate employee interactions with self checkout which makes employee interactions in store or when customers ask questions more important. Many of the employees don’t know what products are in store, they can’t find simple items, they don’t understand promotions and how the Optimum program works.

I find it strange I’ve shopped at this store for 4 years and never met the owners. I’ve never been approached for feedback. In other independent grocery stores I’ve shopped at I have constantly interacted with owners and see them getting to know their customers.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame the employees. They have some great people. They haven’t been trained or coached to create a guest culture that is warm and unique. Like I said above I see this as a huge missed opportunity. Building rapport would not only increase the guest experience but would ultimately increase revenue. Maybe they haven’t watched Johnny the Bagger.

Just came in to grab some groceries and brendon in particular was so helpful and even helped me find each item I was looking for! I don’t ussaly come to grocery stores as I let the wife do it but today brendon made me want to go grocery shopping I even had my 6 kids with me and helped keep them entertained while I was shopping. This world needs more people like Brendon in the world honestly. I’ve been to many grocery stores but I think I will Bo longer shop at superstore or no frills or Walmart or even save on foods! Brendon I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the kindness and good energy you gave me! I honestly appreciate it so much!

I think this is now my favourite grocery store. I always associated the smaller Loblaws locations with being overpriced and not having everything I need in stock. This particular store always seems to have great deals, the store is clean and well-stocked (but not too big). The staff are also extremely nice. Highly recommend.

Had purchased Torilla wraps that had a rancid smell.
Purchased multiple items that were past the due date.
And the prices are one of the highest.
Also, the fresh basil is kept in the fridge. So it bruises before you even take it home!
Kids working there that are always talking to eachother. Obviously, not going through the shelves to look for expired products.
Take some pride in your work, and business!

I would love to give a shout out to the Bakery staff, for making outstanding custom cupcakes for a Kindergarten class. The cupcakes were a smash hit and I really appreciated that Jasmine used buttercream for the decorations on top, as the kids would be sent home to their parents, on a sugar high.

If you owned or managed this store would you leave this on your shelf to sell? This doesn't just happen in a day or two. Overpriced wilted rotting vegetables. Perhaps the health inspector should visit this location. I will never return.

Nice people working there. Clean store. Good customer service and good prices on sale items. I wish I loved closer so I could shop there on daily basis. All employees said hi and smiled. I found some marked down items that I needed. They had coupons and fresh fruits and vegetables. They also had a very nice flower section.
