Super great store! The people who run it are all so kind and patient and really thorough with their work making sure the sizing is just right and sits very well on you! They are pricier than many places but it is well worth it in my opinion for the high quality North American fabrics, the specialty sizing, and in-house tailoring.

Also side note, they seem to be really accommodating and understanding towards neurodivergent people as I felt very safe and supported there as an autistic person and there was another autistic teen there (his dad mentioned he was autistic) who they made sure was comfortable and could read some history books while he was there.

Gilbert’s Big and Tall Menswear is more than just a clothing store—it’s a gem in the heart of downtown Hamilton. I discovered this place five years ago, and as a big guy, finding stylish, well-fitting clothing had always been a struggle… until I walked into Gilbert’s.

From day one, they made me feel seen and taken care of. Their in-house alterations mean everything fits just right, and their selection is impressive—something big men rarely get to say. It’s a family-owned business run by truly wonderful people: Tom, Carol, Ted, and the rest of the family. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know them, and now I even stop by just to say hello (and I don’t do that at any other store unless I’m shopping).

The service is outstanding, the care is genuine, and the quality is unmatched. If you’re a big man looking for proper menswear and real customer care, look no further. You will not be disappointed. Thank you, Gilbert’s, for everything you do—you’re truly something special.

I needed a suit for my daughter’s wedding and Tom and the people at Gilbert’s went way above and beyond my expectations. I wasn’t looking forward to the process, but they were most friendly, accommodating and professional.

In a very short period of time, I got a great suit and they tailored it to custom fit - including the dress shirt. They also gave my son some great help with his suit that was purchased at another store.

Great products, great service, knowledgeable staff, and great people. I will never go anywhere else for a suit.

Gilbert’s has been my best shopping experience thus far. From the moment you walk in you’re greeted with warmth and kindness. You can truly tell it is a family owned business. Great selection, great prices, they will go above and beyond for your business. On short notice I needed wrists hemmed when purchasing a sport coat and they made sure it was taken care of.

I wish I could give this store a 6 star rating. They are that good! Last Friday (October 13th 2023) we arrived in Hamilton for my niece's wedding on Saturday, only to discover my eldest son forgot a dress shirt, tie and socks. We googled around for a close shop to outfit him and found this lovely shop. Tom, the owner, took him under his wing, measured him, suggested styles and helped advise as to colour etc. There were no heavy-handed pressure tactics, just simply the best service possible and we were in and out of there in 30 minutes tops. Thank you so much for making this mom feel relieved. My son looked very dashing at the wedding and the day was saved. So much appreciation here. Highly recommend!
