The work culture at Dortec is extremely Toxic.

Those who have provided five-star reviews are likely either managers or individuals aspiring to become managers.

After two/ three/ four years of employment, employees face an ultimatum: either go up or be terminated. Layoffs are frequent, resulting in a high turnover rate.

Advancement within the company appears to depend heavily on personal connections or favoritism from managers. talented individuals rarely receive promotions; instead, those adept at ingratiating themselves with management do.

The company provides minimal work-related training to engineers. Expectations are unrealistic, and managers lack direction.

Managers focus primarily on pleasing Magna corporate and securing substantial bonuses. Senior Managers can be promoted up to three times a year, while long-term employees with five years of service are laid off for not being deemed a good fit.

Despite its significant potential for growth, achieving this would require the complete replacement of senior management.

My single piece of advice to job seekers: Avoid this company at all cost.

This company constantly struggles with work shortages — almost every two weeks there’s not enough work to even get a full 40 hours. The pay is low for full-time employees, with no proper raises or appreciation. HR and management are completely ineffective — they don’t listen, don’t act, and honestly seem clueless about what’s going on.

The workload itself is manageable, but the work environment is terrible. You’ll deal with toxic coworkers who act like they’re in charge, constantly trying to pressure others and create unnecessary stress. The amount of internal politics is ridiculous.

The biggest issue, though, is a midnight shift supervisor named Scott. He regularly screams at employees, talks down to people, and treats others with open disrespect. His behavior is not just unprofessional — it’s racist and abusive. We are not dogs. We’re workers trying to earn a living, and no one deserves to be treated like that. The fact that he still has a job there says everything you need to know about how this place is run.

Don’t be fooled by all the good reviews you see online — most of them are either written by their own management or by white employees who get treated differently. The reality is very different if you’re not part of that circle.

Dortec is a well established automotive manufacturer that is an industry leader in door latches. From design through to manufacturing there is continuous innovation and optimization at all levels of the business. Facilities are bright and clean, manufacturing technology is industry leading. Leadership varies by department, inter-departmental communication is poor and training program has inconsistent delivery. Shift work over 3 shifts with many overtime requirements.
