I found a great Canadian Coat Designer - Coats by Mary Ellen. They manufacturer hand made products in North York, Ontario. John takes great pride in his designs as an artisan and this shows in the quality of the coat. My 3/4 length, wool coat is light weight and a classic design. I absolutely LOVE IT!! Thank you John and Lisa for helping me shop for a new coat, making this experience exceptional.

I wanted to find a Canadian made wool dress coat, I found Coats by Mary Ellen, then emailed with several questions, which were answered promptly. My husband and I then drove to their location in North York.
Awesome customer service. John helped me try on many styles, some several times. I never felt the least bit rushed.i ended up being able to purchase a coat off the rack only having to have the sleeves shortened. Since we had come from quite a distance, John offered to have the alteration done the same day. My husband and I went for lunch, then got the call less than two hours later that the cost was ready. Lisa was there to have me try on the coat to make sure all was as expected. What a great experience!

I'd initially contacted Coats By Mary Ellen for advice on how to fix my mother's wool coat where her bag had ripped open a hole, John was very helpful and fixed it with an invisible seam, it's now as good as new and my mother was so thrilled! I had also been looking to purchase a coat for myself, and John was incredibly patient when presenting the different coat models available, each one was beautiful but he took the time to help me find the perfect one. They didn't have the coat in my preferred colour, but he offered to make a custom order with the colour I wanted, and again took the time to make sure everything was to my preference and kindly guided me through the process. The coat is beautiful and even to my untrained eye, stylish and masterfully crafted, every detail is addressed, the seams, the buttons, the wool etc, everything is of the highest quality, I can trust that it will hold up over the years. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience, I highly recommend visiting the shop or ordering through their online store, they have many wonderful coats and high quality items on offer (I also purchased leather gloves as a gift, the recipient loves them!). Many many thanks to John and the Coats By Mary Ellen team, I hope to visit them again soon!

For years I’ve thought of purchasing a coat from Coats by Mary Ellen. Not only are you supporting a Canadian-made, family-owned business; the craftsmanship is beautiful. This was my year and I’m so pleased I finally made this choice.
I had a specific colour in mind and was assured it wouldn’t be a problem.
Today I went for my fitting and had the best experience! The designs are classic with current personality; the fabrics are gorgeous and the treatment from this lovely family is beyond special.
I chose my lining, buttons and fit. I’ve never felt so appreciated and so warmly welcomed! To say this experience made my day, is an understatement.
Now I look forward to picking up my new, custom-made coat in a couple of weeks (which is truly impressive since the holidays are in the middle of this timing).

I received a gift of a beautiful pure wool travel cape for Christmas. It was a gorgeous red colour. Unfortunately, red is not a good colour for me so I visited the Mary Ellen Coats shop in North York. I was very kindly greeted by the owner who very generously spent much time with me helping me to try on multiple choices of colours until I finally chose the perfect one for me. What a fantastic experience! John from coats by Mary Ellen designed a custom tailor made cape for me and it is absolutely beautiful. 😍

My late father was a wonderful tailor and I was blessed to have so many beautiful coats custom made for me throughout my lifetime. This is especially important for me as I use a wheelchair and it is difficult to find comfortable yet stylish coats that work for me in a seated position. After my father passed away I was referred to John at coats by Mary Ellen and I must say that I was very happy with the experience from start to finish. He was extremely accommodating and understanding and worked together with me to make sure that everything was just right and that I was completely satisfied. It actually brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of the many beautiful pieces my father made for me.
