Last week someone posted that the store was "uncomfortably busy" and the response from the store was basically what do you expect we're so great. Maybe they are. But I've been in there twice at various times of day and it's the most uncomfortable shopping experience I've ever had. You can't turn anywhere without bumping into people. You can't really look around because there's somebody blocking everything. And you can't even leave comfortably because there is a cash register right at the exit door and whomever is paying blocks the door.

Awesome and from the feel of it beloved local store. I go mainly for the excellent produce, cheaper and better than at the big stores. Lovely, friendly and welcoming staff. A vast selection of cured and fresh meats, cheeses, olives, ready to eat meals, pasta, olives, breads, desserts - you name it. My daughter visiting from Chicago fell in love, wishes she had an Italian grocery store like this near her! We feel lucky to have moved to Thorold and found this gem 🙂

Typically a great place to buy your meat. Unfortunately I purchased 4 Prime Rib Steaks yesterday to the tune of $92 and it was like chewing shoe leather. When I spend that kind of money on a good cut of meat, I did not expect that experience. Trust me I'm not new to BBQ steaks. I would say its safe to assume its the supplier Big Red buys from. Hoping this is a one time off.

Always a great selection of fresh and frozen meat, produce and bakery items. There is a well stocked deli counter where they serve assorted sandwiches and soup. Near the cash you will find ready prepared meals like pasta and pulled pork. Just heat and serve when you get home. The service is always fast and friendly even when busy.

This is out of my realm, I never comment on my experiences. But this time I have to tell you, I bought a corned beef roast that was the BEST I have ever had. I bought it in March 2025 and roasted it almost right away. What was leftover I froze. Today I thawed it and made sandwiches and it was even better.
I have bought a lot of meat from your store in the past but this was worth telling the world about. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Not sure what happened to big red market recently. We unthawed frozen meat and it smelled really bad and the chicken was turning green on the edge. We returned it only to be told they wouldn’t replace it because it didn’t smell like rotten chicken. They always used to have fantastic customer service but when you spend hundreds of dollars on meat, you expect good quality. Normally it is, but you think they would stand behind their product.

Unfortunately my most recent visit to Big Red was a disappointment. My three delicate apple strudels were stacked on top of each other by the cashier, and instead of offering me a separate bag for my precooked roast beef with gravy, which was already leaking, she told me to keep it horizontal to prevent further spilling. She might need to be reminded that small gestures create happy customers, who will return in the future.
