The Grainery is such a hidden gem! They source a wonderful range of local and package-free items. Everyone who works there has been amazing with helping me to refill my bottles of soaps, etc. I love the cooperative structure of the business and am happy to support this kind of initiative in my community. Plus, the prices are incredible! Ethical, sustainable, and local - can’t go wrong.

The Grainery is a small non for profit food co-op. It operates solely on volunteers and carries many staples like oats, flour, rice, lentils, chickpeas, etc. They also carry things like dried fruit, nuts, eggs, tofu, and peanut butter. Most of their products are organic.

Similar to the tare shop, you can bring your own container (or take one of the many free used containers that have been donated) to store whatever you’re buying to reduce packaging waste. They only take cash, e transfer, or debit.

I volunteered for the Grainery (and did lots of shopping as well) and had a lovely experience. Everyone I volunteered with was so friendly and there’s a nice sense of community. I highly recommend trying out the fancy granola and the dried mangoes - these were my favourite snacks and both were very reasonably priced!

Small but mighty! Great shop, great customer service, and I loveeeee that it's a not-for-profit/co-op. Could not recommend this place more, especially for bulk foods like oats or nutritional yeast.

Very cool food coop. Visited yesterday because we were just walking by. Friendly staff and a nice selection of organic grains and dried fruits (bring your own jars, people! They have jars for sale if you forget) and refills on Down East Cleaners. I wish I lived closer so I could shop here more. There’s cereals, oatmeals, flour, pastry flour, prunes, raisins, and some prepackaged things like tahinis and sauces. All volunteer run.

Great food, great people. I get all my organic grains that I need for baking my own bread there for a reasonable price. I also like the philosophy of the grainery and the fact that you work instead of just paying for membership. So everyone is involved of making it better.

I really wanted to become a regular here but in 2 experiences I dealt with some surprisingly dismissive and rude staff. I asked for assistance finding something to only receive the response, "if we have it, it's on one of the shelves". Which admittedly is a hilarious burn but wildly inappropriate in a service role.
