I recently visited Steve’s No Frills in Castlegar to purchase groceries and had an unfortunate experience with the person in charge at the front end. I was purchasing a duck that was advertised as $3.99 per pound. However, when I scanned it at checkout, the price was higher than advertised.

The cashier, who was very polite and professional, called the person in charge for assistance. Unfortunately, when this individual arrived, she began yelling at the cashier without cause, complaining about a line forming behind us. She then abruptly suspended our transaction and walked away, leaving us standing there without addressing the issue or even acknowledging us as customers.

After waiting for a while with no update, I asked her about the status of our transaction. Instead of providing an explanation or resolving the matter, she began yelling at me, saying that if I couldn’t wait, I should leave the store. To make matters worse, I noticed that she treated other customers respectfully and courteously, making her behavior toward me feel discriminatory and deeply insulting.

This incident was not only embarrassing, as it occurred in front of other customers, but also left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome. I believe this is a clear case of racism, and I have decided to file a complaint with Human Rights Canada regarding this incident.

Also I've been seeing all the reviews that people have been complaining about the front end supervisor or manager and doesn't look like anybody cares or takes action as it happens again and again. That person is not even worth a penny to be in that position.

If there was an option for 0 stars, I would have chosen that. The experience at No Frills was extremely disappointing and disrespectful. We were not allowed to take our cart to the self-checkout even though we only had 4 items to scan. Meanwhile, a lady and her husband were allowed to use the self-checkout with a cart full of items. When my friend questioned the team member about this discrepancy, they rudely replied that they had given permission to the other customers and denied us the same courtesy. This treatment felt like a huge disrespect, and it's clear that the team needs proper training on how to communicate with customers. We did not argue and left the store, but we will not be returning.

All of The ladies at the tills are always SO nice. The younger girl with blonde hair who was working tonight compliments every time she checks me out and is just incredibly kind to everyone 🙂 I don’t know her name but she is lovely!

Castlegar No Frills aka banana store aka ghetto foods, has the best produce in town and have great seasonal specials. Always lots to choose from. Tons of parking near 3ntranc3 and great wheelchair access

My beef is with corporate. (The staff at this location are great). I'm upset to see no frills pricing increases over the last few years. It used to be the best bargains but now it's actually the most expensive grocery store in town. It's silly. Once I saw a small packet of dried apricots for $12. Then the next week they were $7. Used to be $2... The meat is B grade greasy quality and the veggies are limp. Mayonnaise is $9. It's like their pricing AI went haywire. I did the May boycott and was pleasantly surprised by the prices at Safeway. Saved a few hundred dollars already.

Specifically a horrible looking manager has no sense of public dealing. At the end of closing she has no sense of dealing with the customer when they don’t have regular carry bags and always constraint us to buy 2$ plastic bags. That manager should be genuinely fired from store.

The black baskets are filthy. They need to be cleaned more often. The thought of putting groceries in a bacteria filled basket turns me off.
